so. i’ve been noticing that my niece, izzy, has been making this face, in every picture lately.

funny, right? i know. she’s a HAM! and i always think, ‘where does she come up with this stuff??” because it’s been my observation that kids at this age are like sponges.

but then i started realizing this:

and these.

and oh, wait for it….

you. are. welcome.

i was presented with the task recently, of helping with games at a wedding shower for my fabulous friends, camila and steven. i am not a game person, so this was a total challenge for me. ha! i tend to be cynical, especially, when it comes to wedding or baby shower games, because they are usually just a big bunch of cheese. CHEESE!

i wanted to do something special and unique…and something guys and girls could both participate in and have fun with. after much research on the interwebs, i decided to make up my own game. i remembered playing this type of ‘human bingo’ game before, where we were given a list of qualities or traits, like, ‘blue eyes’ or, ‘born oustide of Texas.’ we had to find people within the room who matched these descriptions, and have them sign our bingo card.

this was so easy to make, in photoshop and it only took me about an hour. i had a lot of fun thinking up the clues, and although i was unable to make the shower, i heard it was a great hit! and the couple got to keep some of the bingo cards for a keepsake. i should mention, that they are having a destination wedding in florida, this july.

here is the card, ta da!

house update #1

so dan and i busted out the tape, brushes and paint cans this weekend and got after it! we got our bedroom completely painted, the kitchen, and part of the living room. my man is awesome…he had never painted before and just jumped right in there. he was really good at the details, so i was very thankful for that!

i wish i would have taken pictures, boo! i was so tired by the end of it, that i just forgot. but i do have one to share! i picked out a really pretty turquoise blue, called ‘lagoon’ that i wanted to do a few accent walls and the backsplash with, in the kitchen. here is my inspiration picture:

i am thinking about painting our laminate counter-tops a flat silver (or grey, whatever you want to call it, ha!), because thanks to dan’s parents having this recently done, i found out this was actually possible to do! but we have also talked about replacing the counter tops soon too, so i might wait, but i love how it looks in the picture. anywahooo…this is a picture of the beginnings of my attempt to mimic this awesome design.

i gotta say, in person…that blue really helps the cabinets stand out! they look much more rich with a little color.

that’s all i have for now. i will post more pics as i remember to take them!

it’s been way too long. i’ve been neglecting the ol’ blog! so sorry to all three of you who read this, ha!

so what’s new?

i got to spend a lovely afternoon and evening with my niece issy last week. my parents came in town and took mary and jason to see the president speak, so we got some good, quality time. here are some fav issy pictures from that day!

in other news, we are on our sixth week of ordering all of our groceries from greenling. i love it! we have actually cut back on our grocery bill…because in the store, i think i see things that aren’t on my list that seem like a good idea. like candy. mostly candy. haha!

i will update you more on this later but my current favorite product is drinkable yogurt from texas daily harvest. to my surprise, this farm is located in yantis, texas…about 10 miles from my home town! it says their products are made from the finest jersey cows and i totally believe it. i highly recommend the blackberry…but blueberry and strawberry are great too (not as sour, though). we have also been trying different milks, and enjoy tdh’s raw goat’s milk. it’s super expensive tho, so i’m not sure we will get it very often.

also, i got this juice from whole foods this week. check it out.

guess what the ingredients were? pineapple, banana and orange. that’s IT! it was so good, i bought a second one to take home. over the weekend i tried this experiment at home, with an orange, banana and 1/2 a pear. it was a little thick but soooo tasty! and i ate 2 1/2 pieces of fruit in one drink! haha! that’s a LOT of fruit, but experiments are now in full swing. i’ll report back and let you know how they go.

until next time, friends! thanks for reading!

layover in london.

we had an amazing honeymoon to greece, which i will post about later. i didn’t get to use my big-girl camera, in london, bc it was raining, but i did get some sweet shots on my iphone! ha!

we had an overnight layover on our way home. this was a huge treat for us, because dan LOVES all things british. the history, culture, red coats, the union jack…God save the queen! i thought he might kiss the ground when we landed but he totally didn’t.

my phone was kind of dying when we landed. i did, however, manage to get a picture of us on the heathrow express, which is the airport train that goes to paddington station, where we caught a different tube line to victoria.

here we are on the train! super happy and ready to find a good pub. :)

we stayed at the hesperia london at victoria, which was totally a treat. it was super modern and trendy.

we went to a pub for dinner…and both had some sort of variation of fish and chips. it was delicious. dan was totally in his element here. :)

we took a short walk around victoria square. it was raining so much we didn’t see a ton, but it was nice to breath in the londony air.

we almost missed our flight the next day because the tube was down. alarms were going off everywhere in the station, so we got in a huge line to take a taxi back to paddington, which was nice because we got to see more of london in the daylight! i cried the whole way through security because i thought we had missed our flight, but we made it! some of the last people on board!

this was my fourth trip to london and dan’s first, and i sooo hope it’s in the cards for us to return someday!

a little comfort food

okay, friends. i have noticed lately that ALL my posts are about recipes. HA! i can’t let the desire for variety keep me from sharing this delicious treat we had last night. it was like a big casserole dish of comfort food goodness.

my sister and brother in law, mary and jason, came over with my amazing niece, issy, along with some of our newer friends, tristan and melissa. so with six of us eating i needed something that would feed us all in a big dish, since our guests were providing salad and dessert.

another one of teresa’s amazing recipes surely did the trick! i made a few alterations (her recipe calls for pasta but i used rice instead. it also calls for poppy seeds, but since i had a guest who couldn’t have them, they were omitted). here’s the altered recipe.

chicken casserole

1 box instant white rice
2 pkgs chicken breast chunks, boneless
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 ounces of sour cream
1 sleeve of crushed ritz crackers
1 stick of melted butter

bake the chicken for 30 minutes, in a little bit of olive oil, about 1/4 c of water and a little salt and pepper, on 350 for about 35 minutes. while this is in the oven, prepare the rice according to the directions, and pour rice, the two cans of soup, and sour cream into a large bowl. when the chicken is done baking, cut the pieces into bite sized, and add to the bowl. stir well, and put in a large 9×13 baking dish.

at this point, the dish can be frozen for future use, or refrigerated for a day or so if you are making things in advance.

when you’re ready to bake, heat your oven to 350. crush up one sleeve of ritz crackers and mix with a stick of melted butter. pour cracker/butter mixture on top of your casserole and bake for about 30 minutes, or until bubbly.

we licked the bowl and serving spoon clean…it was so delicious! i hope you enjoy this, too!
